Because we live in a world bound by the needs and wants of people, millions of products require our attention.
This calls for an imperative need for compliance of these products and services with regional and industry-specific regulations to ensure that the product being launched is a complete and successful product.
Considering this, Oracle Agile PLM provides the opportunity to define the product, including its structure in its base module product collaboration. It also entails the approval procedure of the product underway.
Product compliance is a matter of critical nature and sensitivity and must be adhered to.This has given birth to another concept or module, product governance.
Product governance and compliance are two fundamentals of Agile PLM that carry necessary information pertaining to products and their release.
Support Discontinuity of PG&C Module
PG&C or product governance and compliance together form a highly-demanded module of Agile PLM, which holds prominence in the business market.
With the discontinuation of the PG&C module from Oracle, there is a growing concern from many Oracle Agile PLM users regarding the availability of the PG&C features.
These features have offered an efficient and convenient integrated solution for managing product compliance and data under the same umbrella, thus raising concerns.
Proposed Custom PG&C Implementation using PC Module
Given the market needs and the vast majority of Agile PLM users using PG&C modules, many in the industry still need PG&C implementation.
They desperately require this intersection and implementation of PG&C modules in collaboration with their existing product structures and ready-to-use products. This is because of the need to gather compliance information in the system.
Considering the need for a custom solution by the market and users, Xavor Corporation has come up with a dynamic proposition. Xavor proposed an essential customized solution by implementing the features of PG&C in PC with minimalistic customizations.
Features
Rollup Management
The roll-up management is carried out in the same fashion and methodology as was previously employed in the PG&C module, following the process outlined below:
This way, the defined roll-up procedure follows the bottom-up approach or strategy. According to this fashion or strategy, roll-up pulls the compliance information from the bottom level to the top level.
Moreover, the system is flexible to deal with such compliance standards that need to be defined only on the parent (FG level) if needed.
In that case, the customized roll-up does not copy the compliance regulation standard throughout the BOM structure.
Excluding Items from Roll-up
The implementation allows the exclusion of certain objects from the roll-up from which compliance information will not be carried over. Also, they will not be considered or accounted for in the final roll-up.
Exemptions Management
The exemptions can be specified at the compliance standards level, which allows the user to mark exemptions against objects having compliance status as exempt.
Substances Definition
Substances can be defined in accordance with each compliance regulation, including their threshold values. Approaching similar implementations to PG&C, substance masses are defined by engineers.
These are then reviewed by compliance managers before final approval. Compliance calculation works at the substance level with flexible implementation of adding SVHCs (Substances of very high concern.).
Approval Procedure
The implementation supports a structured approval procedure or process for the incorporation of compliance information. This allows and enables the engineers and managers to incorporate compliance data along with required reports & certificates to be attached in relevance to the compliance regulations.
Custom Reports
Since reporting holds fundamental equity in any system/module or implementation of any process, the PC module provides the capability to generate custom compliance reports, such as:
– Product Structure Compliance report
– Compliance Exemptions Report
– Substances Usability Report and
– Compliance Information Report etc.
The capability and flexibility are there to generate custom reports using the compliance data available in the PC module of PLM.
Pros of using a customized PG&C Approach
With the standard implementation of PG&C, multiple process extensions were required. These extensions make the implementation of this module flexible and easier for the end users to use and allow compliance information to float on different tabs of an object.
The customized approach addresses these limitations upfront. Thus, it streamlines the entire user experience.
Future Enhancements
Following the successful implementation of Xavor’s customized solution, the integration of this module with Salesforce, QMS, and other external systems is being processed.
Some of the UI improvements are also under consideration due to the feedback of customers who are happy with this customized implementation.
In the End,
The discontinuation of Oracle’s support for the PG&C module has prompted a response from regular users. They now seek alternative solutions for managing product compliance efficiently.
The innovative approach of implementing the promising custom solution by using the base module of Agile PLM covers the features of PG&C. It also offers an enhanced and more flexible environment to manage product compliance.
Following the flexibility, this solution offers integration with other systems, sharing and manipulating the compliance information as needed. Such solutions allow the industry to handle compliance matters more effectively and with a very simplistic approach.
Therefore, staying within the basic module can generate composed information under the same umbrella.
